A Coloured Heritage

The coloured community might not be able to look at any ethnic heritage with in South Africa, black white and Indian people can trace back generations to before civilisation. And it’s perceived that we as coloureds are more a by product of our foremothers been taken advantage of… mmm
But as a matter of fact we as the coloured community are the hybrid product of a new South Africa. And when I say a new South Africa I mean one that happened before any one knew that there was or could be another type of South Africa on the map. We are the face and genes of the next generation.
For too long our foremothers were taken advantage of abused and raped without those who thought they were in power ever knowing that they were laying the basis for a hybrid that has the best of both worlds hardworking and good looks is the way of life in the community. I mean think about it; think long and hard about what you inherited from your parents everyone that lives in the east believes they have style, your shirt must match the colour of your takkies or shoes; this is part of your heritage. If weddings birthdays funerals Christmas and new years seem to be celebrated in the same way it’s your heritage to celebrate that way. If you have a pair of chucks in your cupboard it’s your heritage takkie wear it with pride. Now I’m sure you wondering what your heritage really is and how to find it properly well you in luck; to know your heritage properly you just have to look back but one generation our heritage as I said is one based in the streets of the modern world. With the amalgamation of races within our communities there is plenty people born who for instance mother is of a complete ethnic background with a father with a complete Asian background you can only identify yourself in the modern times of south Africa and if they not going to tell it like it is I definitely will you coloured my poor lost soul.
The struggle we as South Africans went through was shifted towards a peaceful democracy when the coloured community joined forces to redirect the struggle towards what it is today. Public figures sometimes get all the glory and those on the streets get left in the dust to fend for themselves still on the streets. But this is where the raw strength comes from within the individuals, a strength to overcome and persevere.
In the process of trying to understand my own heritage and roots I had to look back, back into my family roots and yes I now know for sure I am 1000% a proudly South African coloured.
We need to see it believe it and engrain our predestined role as the role models for future generations. I’m South African by racial creed and coloured by cultural difference, what are you?
